My thoughts. My opinions. My stories.

Our 6 year old nephew Not Me spent the weekend at our house and despite my best efforts to keep the Wii hidden he knew I had one and kept asking if he could play it. I have to mention here the kid’s a Playstation 2 addict and as Don says he’s a video game snob. He wasn’t happy playing a Super Nintendo he wanted a Playstation or my Wii. Since Don got rid of his Playstation 2 he set his sites on my Wii.

I don’t have many games, I have Wii Sports which came with the unit, Trauma – Second Opinion, Trauma – New Blood and Animal Crossings City Folks. I won’t let a 6 year old play Wii Sports because I don’t trust that he won’t let go of the remote and send it crashing into the TV. Yes, I know it has a wrist strap but they have been known to break. Since, as Don put it, Not Me has the attention span of a gnat I knew he wouldn’t be able to remember the surgical procedures needed to play the Trauma games so that left Animal Crossings. I relented and we set him up with his own character and named it after him. If you’re not familiar with Animal Crossings it’s a single player game but you can have several characters in the game, you just have to play one at a time. You also have to work, make money and purchase your tools such as fishing pole, net to catch bugs and insects and expand your house. Since Not Me’s character was new he had noting so he wanted to play using my character. I took a big girl pill, held my breath and let him play. As soon as he took over the controls he was messing up my town. I spent weeks planting flowers, cutting down and planting trees, decorating my house. I took time each day to water my flowers and contributing to the town fund to get a new bridge and now I’m saving up for a town fountain.

As soon as Not Me entered my town he kept picking my flowers. He moved all my furniture around and went into the city and got a makeover on my character, changing her face and hairstyle. HE WAS RUNING MY TOWN. I spent a lot of time when he was done trying to put everything back the way it was. The next morning he woke up asking to play the Wii again. That’s when it hit me, I don’t have to save the game when he’s finished. If I don’t save it then it will be as if any damage he’s done didn’t happen.

Here's some pictures of MY TOWN. The first photo as well as the photo above is MY CHARACTER the way I had her looking. The rest of the photos are MY CHARACTER after Not Me changed her look.

Now I’m trying to figure out how to tell him the Wii got broke or I lost it when he comes to visit again. I guess being raised like an only child (my only brother was 19 when I was born) is coming back to haunt me. I have a hard time sharing my toys.

Don't feel bad. I have a hard time sharing too. I was like an only child also. There's 13 years and 15 years between my brothers and I. It absolutely kills me to let my kids play with my Wii or my toys!

Dee, I just found your blog and am a new follower. I would *die* if anyone touched my Wii and my AC game. I am very afraid to go to other peoples towns because my friend said that she gave her code to someone and they chopped down all her trees! ACK! Could you imagine?

Momma Snail.....I'd heard the same thing, not only cutting down trees rearranging your house and picking all your fruit but I've only given my code to a cousin that I trust. I've seen on message boards where people are asking to be friends and getting codes, that I would never do.

It is my understanding though that they can't get in if your gate is closed. You can also turn off the internet 24 access or whatever it's called and only turn it on when you're on. That prevents any night time visitors.

Going to other towns does allow you to get their native fruit which you can sell to Nook for $500 bells rather than the $100 that your native fruit is. My native fruit is apple but in my cousin's town I was able to get cherries, peaches, oranges and pears. She also gave me a coconut which didn't grow then I found them on the beach and planted them. After the 4th try I finally got some palm trees to grow.
