My thoughts. My opinions. My stories.

Anybody in the blogging world knows it costs money to actually own your own blog or website. There are free domains and hosting out there and I’m one of those who got my feet wet that way. Actually I still have a blog or two on using a sub domain of a free site. This blog is my baby and as such I give it special treatment in the way of giving it its own address and own look by tweaking a template to make it unique and one of a kind. The last step I need to do is to change the neighborhood of where my blog lives. No, I won’t have to change the address but I will have to have it hosted elsewhere and actually pay a monthly fee to do that.

Choosing a host for your blog or website is overwhelming. There are so many places out there and each one promises you this or that but it’s a bit confusing. There are such things as space, data transfer and how much are you allowed each month. Then there’s the hassle of trying to figure out how much you’ll be using. After all, you don’t want to overspend and buy the Cadillac if webhosting if the Kia will do. Now you could ask for recommendations but for every person who recommends a place for hosting you’ll have another with horror stories.

I still don’t know what all the jargon means as far as the different companies go but there’s a website out there, webhosting, that has the hosting providers listed in one place so you can compare. They even have a blog that explains all the terminology making it easier to decide where you need to go. My favorite so far is Web Hosting 101. It explains everything very neatly.

Now I know when I’m ready to take the monthly plunge into actually owning my blog with paid hosting I have someplace to learn what to do.
